Klein Bonaire: a paradise island off the coast of Bonaire
Off the coast of Bonaire lies an island named 'Klein Bonaire'. A day trip to this breathtaking island is a must during your vacation on Bonaire. The island is known for its pristine nature, stunning white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear water. Furthermore, the island serves as a nesting ground for turtles, which means that this protected nature reserve has no facilities. So, if you are planning a day trip to Klein Bonaire, bring your own food and drinks.
Take the water taxi from Kralendijk to Klein Bonaire
Klein Bonaire is located approximately 800 meters from the coast of Bonaire. To reach the island, take the water taxi, which operates year-round from Kralendijk. A boat departs every hour from Karel's Beach Bar starting at 9:15 in the morning. After 10:45, you can also take a return trip from Klein Bonaire to the mainland every hour. You have the option to reserve a spot on the boat, but this is not necessary. We advise you to leave early in the day so that you can explore the island at your leisure.
Diving, snorkeling, or picnicking: anything is possible on Klein Bonaire
There are plenty of activities to enjoy on Klein Bonaire: diving, snorkeling, picnicking, birdwatching, or simply relaxing on the snow-white No Name Beach, considered one of Bonaire's most beautiful beaches. Do you want to explore the underwater world with (young) children? Then book an excursion on the semi-submarine. This boat has a glass bottom, allowing you to enjoy the colorful fish, the famous black corals, and the turtles in peace. Do you want to see Bonaire's iconic flamingos in real life? Then visit one of the three small saliñas (salt lakes) on Klein Bonaire. You will undoubtedly encounter large flocks of flamingos at these lakes.
Don't forget to purchase a Nature Tag
Klein Bonaire and the surrounding sea are part of the Bonaire National Marine Park. If you plan to visit Klein Bonaire or participate in a water activity, you are required to purchase a Nature Tag. This can easily be done via the STINAPA website. Additionally, the Nature Tag is available at dive shops, hotels, or at the STINAPA headquarters, located at Barcadera 10 in Kralendijk. The proceeds from these Nature Tags benefit nature conservation on Bonaire. Your Nature Tag is valid for one year, meaning you only need to purchase it once a year for all your activities.
